epidemic-distribution vs browsing-systems
They call this friendly worms used for software patches distribution. Basically "good worms" may "distribute" over a computers base unknown at the begining.
The idea is not applicable in this way - especially when you talk about security patches ...
The current way of making software distribution channels or auto-updates is limited. Also the offline distribution of CD's, DVD's and any other format looks old fashion.
Really: maybe the future is "only server-side websites w/ very-thin clients". Huge and increasing network operator requirements. Software distribution internal updates/versioning whithin websites augmented with websites promotion.
Until then - we have to make the online-websites a little more friendly/usable and easier to develop/change.
I have few hundreds Windows updates on my computer but I don't (need to) care how many internal updates google have. It's their problem when they offer a service.
I think there is time to have the same next light-operating-system-kernel used widely across various types of devices: laptops, mobiles, pdas, etc.
If I can use the same services across all my mobile devices (with some diferences in flavor of course) then I no longer need an operating system.
I need a "Browsing System" enhanced with the possibility to work with lots of local devices.
Websites need to change mentality and create mobile interface of all kinds. Big sites started so. Even romanian major websites does that already at some level.
Alot of my friends now use PDA's, smart phones etc. And they are not all software programmers. But it's true many of them are engineers.
If Microsoft is to reinvent itself - imho this would be the way ... to return to the "micro" dimension from his name - and drop the "Windows" dimension. Just create a good "Microsoft Browsing System" on which google can run.
If this is the real intention with Android - buying google shares seems a good option - despite of the high price.
my 2 cents ...
Later edit: in the meantime Microsoft announced this. Will this be a real success or just another framework ?
